Vice Minister Zhao Baige Held Talks with Mr. Bernard Coquelin, UNFPA Representative in China

Dr. Zhao Baige, Vince Minister of National Population and Family Planning Commission of China (NPFPC) held talks with Mr. Bernard Coquelin, UNFPA Representative in China on July 15, 2008 in Beijing regarding related issues for the 5th Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health to be held in Beijing in 2009. The two parties had discussions on the agenda arrangement, organization form and ways of raising funds for the conference and the agenda for the first preparatory meeting of the international steering committee of the conference to be held at the end of August 2008.

2009 is the 15 anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). Both international community and the Asia Pacific countries hope, through the 5th Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health, to sum up the achievements made in the last 15 years, analyze current challenges in front of us, and explore future strategies in realizing ICPD Program of Action and the MDGs, especially the goal of universal access to reproductive health.

Mrs. Mariam Khan, Deputy UNFPA Resident Representative in China, Mrs. Hao Linna, Director General, Department of International Cooperation of NPFPC and some officials attended the discussion.
