The Workshop on Strategy for South-South Cooperation jointly organized by National Population and Family Planning Commission of China (NPFPC) and Partners in Population and Development (PPD) was held in China Training Center of Reproductive Health and Family Care (CTC) in Taicang City of Jiangsu Province on May 13, 2009.
Senior officials from 9 countries including Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Mali and Nigeria, representatives from international organizations including PPD, IPPF, ICOMP and UNFPA, relative leaders from NPFPC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Public Health, and experts from the population and development field attended the workshop. Vice Mayoress Tan Ying made an address at the workshop.
Dr. Zhao Baige, Vice Minister of NPFPC made a report entitled Development and Prospects for Comprehensive Solution of Population Issues. Mr. Harry Jooseery, Executive Director, Partners in Population and Development (PPD) expounded the economic, population, environment, social and cultural factors closely related with the realization of ICPD Program of Action, MDGs and reproductive health under the new situation, and said that many ways would be adopted to reinforce the roles the PPD should play in south-south cooperation in the population and development field. During the workshop, in-depth discussions were conducted around the three topics of new challenges and opportunities in the population and development field, new ways for population and development promotion through south-south cooperation, and advancement of population and development through south-south cooperation.
