In order to improve the activities of international cooperation programs of integrating reproductive health/family planning services with AIDS prevention, including the program of UNFPA, AIDS program of China global fund round three, AIDS program of China global fund round four, program of China AIDS fund of America, and to strengthen the trainings to managers and service suppliers, the international cooperation department of NPFPCC and UNFPA Beijing office held jointly the training classes of international cooperation program of integrating reproductive health/family planning services with AIDS prevention in Aug. sixth to ninth, 2007 in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. On the opening ceremony, deputy head Ru Xiaomei, deputy director Ou Lisheng, director Li Jianhua, deputy director Zhang Linglin delivered speeches, who were respectively from the international cooperation department of NPFPCC, the Population and Family Planning Committee of Sichuan Province, the Population and Family Planning Committee of Chengdu City, and the STD/AIDS Prevention and Control Center of Sichuan Province. The training classes were composed of two parts, one was to introduce the situation of integrating reproductive health/family planning services with AIDS prevention boosted by the population and family planning departments, the model of intervening AIDS prevention to different groups by the population and family planning departments, the result of base-line survey, the use of propaganda material for AIDS prevention and relative suggestions, the other was participatory training, to train teachers for the program counties. As the training was over, the teachers would go back to their counties to hold training classes oriented on the contents of this training for more people. By the time, the international cooperation department of NPFPCC would organize experts to supervise and evaluate the training classes.

Forty people participated the training classes, who were respectively from the ten program counties of China/UNFPA AIDS prevention round six, the six program counties of China AIDS global fund round three which was developing propaganda education of AIDS prevention to the floating population with networks of population and family planning, two program counties of Chinese AIDS global fund round four which was developing social marketing of condom to the floating population with networks of population and family planning, and nine program counties of China AIDS fund of America which sponsored the comprehensive intervention of STD/AIDS to the females who were working in amusement places. All the trainees were local managers and suppliers of technology services of international cooperation program in AIDS prevention.

The program office of AIDS prevention of China population and development research center developed a set of feasible training handbook. This handbook made systematic explanations to a series of questions, such as fundamental knowledge about AIDS, recognizing and evaluating dangerous behaviors of people who received AIDS prevention services, using the double effect of condom to reduce the risk of being infected, the model of integrating reproductive health /family planning with AIDS prevention, the use of propaganda material for AIDS prevention and relative suggestions, the 2007 plan of China/UNFPA reproductive health AIDS prevention program round six, and how to make plans, to supervise and evaluate the program. On the meeting, Gui Xi'en, one of the "top ten figures inspiring China of 2004" and also an expert well-known in AIDS prevention of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, was specially invited to deliver wonderful speeches on the AIDS prevention and separation against mother-to-children transmission, the anti-discrimination to AIDS, the standard principles of AIDS prevention and protection, and so on. Besides, Yang Ping and Tian Ai'ping who were research fellows respectively from the STD/AIDS department of Chinese center for disease prevention and control and from the science institute of family planning of Sichuan Province made training classes on VCT/VCR, and problems and strategies on the use of condom.

The training classes went thoroughly and systematically. Participatory training was adopted in the classes and trainees interacted with teachers by role acting, rain storm, group discussion and so many other ways. During the evaluation to the training classes at spot, trainees spoke highly the participatory ways. The data before and after training classes showed that training classes improved at different level the knowledge of trainees on AIDS prevention, anti-discrimination to AIDS, integration with reproductive health/family planning service and so on. Eventually, trainees made plans of training classes for their own counties according to their own situation. Deng Lei, who was from Marie Stopes International, appreciated greatly the ways and effect of the training classes. She hoped that all the trainees could develop well training classes in their own counties with this training experience. Finally, Ru Xiaomei, deputy head of international cooperation department of NPFPCC summarized the training classes. She contended that the training realized the integration and improvement of international program resources fro AIDS prevention. She also said that the training indicated that population and family planning departments would summarize, improve, charge, re-start, and re-develop on the foundation of achievement in AIDS prevention got in recent years.
