Training on Gender Promotion under China/UNFPA Program in Heping District, Tianjin

To further promote China/UNFPA Country Program Six, Population and Family Planning Commission of Heping District, Tianjin organized a training workshop on gender equality promotion at sub-district/community level during late October 2009 and conducted a training workshop on gender promotion under China/UNFPA program on 19 November 2009. Twenty-four family planning cadres from the district and sub-districts and technicians from family planning service stations attended the latter training workshop.

Contents of training include gender concept and its formation, gender and male participation, and gender and quality of care. The workshop aimed at promoting the gender awareness of family planning workers in their services, advocating integration of gender concept into population and family planning decision-making and regular activities, conducting analysis of the attention to gender by service sectors and the service patterns that influence gender relationship at the angle of promotion of gender equality, and mainstreaming the concept of male participation into family planning activities and services, so that our work could fully meet the needs of clients.

The participatory and interactive approach was adopted during the training, such as question and answer, case study, demonstration, group discussion. The participants took an active part in all the activities, updated their concept on gender formation and promotion of gender equality, and learned the participatory approach in training. This training workshop will significantly enhance the China/UNFPA projects and quality of care in family planning in Heping District.
